芭蕉の特別な3句：鷹とウズラ Basho's Three Special Haikus: The Hawks and the Quails

昨日の記事で松尾芭蕉の全982句のうち特別な3句だけ2種の鳥が出てくると書きました。下記の3句がそれになります。

1. 鷹の目も今や暮れぬと鳴く鶉
2. 雲雀鳴く中の拍子や雉子の声
3. 冬牡丹千鳥よ雪のほととぎす

猛禽依存症の私としては１の句が気に入りました。これが詠まれたのは元禄4年秋だそうです。そう言えば昨年の秋に自宅そば相模川で同じ日にハイタカとコリンウズラを目撃したのを思い出しました。

In yesterday's article, I wrote that out of all 982 Haikus by Basho Matsuo, only three special Haikus feature two species of birds. They are the three shown below.

1. The quails start calling because it becomes dark and the hawks cannot find them.
2. Skylarks and pheasants are singing together.
3. A plover calling with winter peony flower makes me imagine a lesser cuckoo singing in snow.

As a raptoholic, I like the first one. It is said that this Haiku was written in the autumn of the 4th year of the Genroku era. I remember seeing a Eurasian Sparrowhawk and Northern bobwhites on the same day at the Sagami River near my house last autumn.
